Satyricon ist ein wunderbarer Schelmen und Abenteuerroman des antiken Dichters Gaius Petronius Arbiter. Leider ist der vollständige Roman nicht mehr erhalten, es gibt nur noch Bruchstücke dieser Satire. Aber trotz alledem ist dies ein interessantes Werk der antiken Literatur, gibt Petronius doch Einblicke in das Leben der damaligen Zeit.Besonders hervorzuheben ist das "Gastmahl des Trimalchio", welches ein in sich vollkommen abgeschlossenes Teilstück des Satyricon ist.Für alle Interessierte der Antike auf jedenfalls lesenswert.
Die Welt steht unter der Herrschaft des Fruchtbarkeitsgottes Priapus - so jedenfalls erscheint es Enkolpius, der im Römischen Reich zur Zeit des Kaisers Nero lebt. Enkolpius liebt den Knaben Giton und lebt mit ihm zusammen. Leider nicht ungestört: Andauernd hat er Grund zur Eifersucht. Zusammen erleben Enkolpius und Giton haarsträubende Abenteuer und lernen einen ganzen Reigen skurriler Figuren kennen: die Priesterin Quartilla, die ihren Dienst für Priapus allzu wörtlich nimmt; den neureichen Trimalchio, der auf einem Festmahl seine eigene Beerdigung inszeniert und dabei versehentlich die Feuerwehr auf den Plan ruft; den verarmten Dichter Eumolpus, den seine Dichterei immer wieder in Lebensgefahr bringt. Als dann Enkolpius bei dem Fruchtbarkeitsgott in Ungnade fällt, hat er ein Problem - und Viagra gab es damals noch nicht ... Im "Satyricon", dem Roman des römischen Politikers und Schriftstellers Petronius, wird die Welt der Antike wieder bunt und lebendig. Mal derb, mal mit feiner Ironie schildert Petronius die Neureichen und Sklaven, die Villen, Bäder und Bordelle und nimmt die Schwächen seiner Mitmenschen aufs Korn, die auch uns recht bekannt vorkommen.
