Matt Hranek is a photographer, director, and men's style editor at Condé Nast Traveler. He is reasonably obsessed with watches and is often caught glancing at the wrists of strangers on the subway, in bars, and in restaurants. He's also a fan of the sartorial arts, vintage sports cars, red meat, cheap beer, and old school European hotels. Matt lives in Brooklyn, where he is currently in a deep love affair with the Negroni.

Being a follower of many classic men's watch blogs on Instagram, i recently learned about this publication by Matthew Hranek. The blogs were full of praise and - having now seen it and holding it in my hands - rightfully so.The book is not to be misunderstood as an encyclopedia of watches, the makers or the mechanics within - it is a compendium of different watches, from very rare (a Rolex Oyster Kew A tested Observatory) to very common (think Swatch) - all linked to the personal stories of their proprietors.It is a wonderful read, as it features so much more than just beautiful pictures of lovely watches - it tells how these came into possession, why they were obtained, whom they were given by, etc. It is fun, touching, even hilarious sometimes - but never boring.I can wholeheartedly recommend buying this book to anyone with an interest in classic watches - not because of their intricate design, the name they bear on them or the adjacent price tag, but because these watches come with a personal account, one that many of us can resonate with.
Habe das Buch für meinen Freund als Geschenk gekauft. Er ist sehr an der Geschichten von Uhren und besonderen Uhrversionen interessiert. Er hat sich sehr gefreut und hat das Buch sofort verschlungen. Voller Erfolg.Leider kam das Buch mit ein paar Macken (deswegen -1 Stern), was dem Content jedoch nichts abgetan hat.
